PHR Cards
Why Smart cards?
Smart cards provide the benefit of carrying medical information with you, while still being both portable and secure. A smart card is convenient, durable, and can fit in your wallet. They also are much more secure than other traditional data storage devices because they can protect the data until it is unlocked and are not susceptible to viruses. Also, smart cards provide the capability to uniquely identify the card holder, allowing secure access control.
How is the information protected?
The information on the card itself is encrypted and is only unlocked once the card holder has been authenticated via a Personal Identification Number (PIN).
What if I lose my card?
If you lose your card, it will not be usable since it is locked by your PIN. Also, once a card is reported lost to us, we will revoke the certificate that identifies the card. These two security features render the lost card useless. A new card will be generated and issued to you.
What if the doctor doesn't have a card reader?
We offer a keychain card reader, which you can bring with you wherever you go.
Health Information Exchange (HIE)
Who houses the data?
Each hospital and clinic will still house all of their patients’ data. via their EMRData will be shared across the network of hospitals and practices, when requested.
Is the network scalable?
The network is designed in a way that small networks can be connected forming a network of networks, paving the way for a national HIE network.
Will the HIE work with my EMR?
Our HIE system leverages Health Level 7 (HL7) messaging standards enabling all HL7 compliant EMRs to connect to our system. Non-HL7 compliant EMRs can be custom fit to connect to our HIE system.
Why not a Central Database?
A central database creates unnecessary security risks. Without a central database, there is no central point of failure nor a central target for hacking. Central databases also inhibit scalability, limiting the maximum size of the network
