DSA Chairman and CEO Selected a Finalist for Ernst & Young 2006 Entrepreneur of the Year
TREVOSE, PA., July 14, 2006 –Frances R. Pierce, Chairman, President and CEO of Data Systems Analysts, Inc., (DSA), a provider of global IT security services to government and industry, was selected one of three finalist from the Greater Philadelphia region for the Ernst & Young 2006 Entrepreneur of the Year in Technology. Ernst & Young (E&Y) recognizes the “most successful and innovative entrepreneurial business leaders in more than 125 cities in 40 countries around the world.”
According to Chris L. Bruner, E&Y partner, “Entrepreneurs create the businesses, services, and perhaps most important, the jobs that keep our economy strong. And they do it with imagination, determination, and lots of hard work.”
An article profiling the “Technology Finalists” published in the Philadelphia Business Journal’s June 23, 2006 issue said this about Fran Pierce: “Right from the beginning Frances R. Pierce was never one to simply do what was expected. While attending Chestnut Hill College, rather than declaring a major in English as her parents had hoped, she chose to major in mathematics, believing it would give her the best chance to succeed once she hit the working world. Her instincts were correct then, and they’ve been correct throughout her career.”
With over forty years of domestic and international experience, both in the commercial and government sectors, Ms. Pierce began her information technology career with Ford Aerospace in 1963, where she spent six years working on the design and implementation of a backbone data communications network. She was later employed by the RCA Corporation in communications product development.
In 1971, Ms. Pierce joined DSA as a System Design Analyst for a large-scale data switching system. Promoted to chief engineer and overall technical manager in 1975, she became Program Manager in 1976.
Appointed Vice President and Technical Director in 1979, Executive Vice President and General Manager of the New Jersey Operation in 1985, Executive Vice President and General Manager of the Washington, D.C. Operation in 1986, Ms. Pierce became President and Chief Executive Officer in 1991. She has served on the DSA Board of Directors since 1980 and became Chairman of the Board in 1991.
Ms. Pierce was named to the Regional Board of Directors for TD Banknorth’s Mid-Atlantic Division (formerly Hudson United Bank) in 2006 and recently was named to the Vistage International Member Advisory Board for the Mid-Atlantic region, having been a long-time member of the world’s largest CEO membership organization. She also serves on the board of The International Eye Foundation, an organization dedicated to the promotion of peace through the prevention of blindness.
She was a finalist for the Technology Council of Maryland’s 2004 Executive of the Year Award, a unique recognition by the high technology community. In 2003, she was selected a “Woman of Distinction” by the Philadelphia Business Journal and the National Association of Women Business Owners, an award based on commitment to professional excellence and community involvement.
Ms. Pierce was a member of the Board of Directors of Chestnut Hill College from 1993 to 1999. She was a finalist for the Ernst & Young 1998 Greater Philadelphia Entrepreneur of the Year Award for Technology Services and was the recipient of the Women's Fund of New Jersey Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Field of Technology in 2002.
A past Associate Director of the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA), Ms. Pierce served as president for its Philadelphia Chapter and headed the chapter’s efforts to award scholarships to deserving young candidates pursuing a career in communications and security. For her efforts, she received the AFCEA Educational Foundation Award. She also served on the Advisory Board of The Secretary of the Army's National Science Center.
Ms. Pierce co-chaired the 2001 National Association of Computer Consultant Businesses (NACCB) annual conference in Los Angeles, and is a founding member of The Open Door Education Foundation, the NACCB's not-for-profit, charitable arm. The mission of this foundation is to help talented young people with limited financial resources get the training and skills necessary to keep the United States in the lead technologically.
Professional memberships include: Drug Information Association, Forum of Executive Women, Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association, the Association of the United States Army, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, The Executive Committee, Information Technology Association of America, National Association of Computer Consultant Businesses, Eastern Technology Council, New Jersey Technology Council, Northern Virginia Technology Council, Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association, and the Women's Investment Network. Ms. Pierce has been a member of the Union League of Philadelphia since 1991.
Ms. Pierce received a B.S. degree in Mathematics from Chestnut Hill College and attended graduate school at Temple University.
