Data Systems Analysts Awarded $20 Million Prime Contract for U.S. Army Knowledge Center
Pennsauken, N.J., September 5, 2001 - DSA has been selected the prime contractor by the U.S. Army to manage and further develop the Army's Knowledge Center and Integrated Data Environment (IDE). The Knowledge Center uses technology to leverage shared knowledge and improve work and communications efficiencies for thousands of registered users.
The award of prime status comes after several years of collaborative efforts between the Army and DSA. During this time, work proceeded on four integrated projects with the Knowledge Center (KC) at the core. Enhancing the KC portal is its ability to link to other Army, DOD and commercial Web sites. Multiple users can conduct real-time meetings on-line. Monthly hits average over 700,000 growing at a rate of 15% per month, and over 12,000 documents are available on the site.
Major General Steven W. Boutelle, Program Executive Officer for the U. S. Army's Command, Control and Communications Systems at Fort Monmouth describes the Knowledge Center web site as "combining technological wizardry with meaningful content".
User feedback indicates 75% believe it increases productivity. A recent Return on Investment study concluded that the $2.5 million investment has generated a $23.5 million cost savings.
According to Emerson Keslar, the Army's Special Projects Officer, "This new channel for decision making, group interaction, and systems support has contributed both to team performance and significantly reduced travel and communications costs".
DSA Vice President, Kathleen Kirk, whose office is overseeing the new contract, is pleased DSA has been chosen the prime contractor for such an important assignment. "DSA has contributed to the Knowledge Center since its inception. We are proud to be recognized for that contribution and for having won the confidence of the Army to place the management and further development of the Knowledge Center in our hands. It is a responsibility which we take seriously," says Lipper.
The DSA Team will support the on-going operations of the Knowledge Center Office located at Ft. Monmouth, NJ and continue to develop new capabilities to enhance the portal product. The term of the contract, including three optional years, runs through September 2005. Total contract value is over $20 million.
