Cayman Islands Award Aeronautical Messaging Contract
Data System Analysts, Inc.’s AMHS Chosen
PENNSAUKEN, NJ, March 2, 2000 – The Cayman Islands mark the seventh Caribbean nation to select Data System Analysts, Inc.’s (DSA) Aeronautical Message Handling (AMHS). The Caymans ordered DSA’s AMHS Concentrator and Aeronautical Fixed Telecommunications Network (AFTN) Terminals to upgrade its air traffic messaging capabilities. The new system will enable reliable, high-speed data transmission using the X.25 protocol to communicate with the FAA’s NADIN network. The new system also will utilize the MEVA satellite communications to update the exchange of messages with other countries and insure conformity to international air transport and telecommunications network requirements.
According to Albert de Vries, DSA Manager for Civil Aviation, "The concentrated activity in the Caribbean region is a result of the UN-sponsored International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) initiative to provide a satellite network to interconnect the islands and upgrade aeronautical communications. DSA is providing the message handling gateways to replace or adapt the older, legacy systems to the new MEVA satellite network."
The Cayman Islands follow their neighbors in the selection of DSA’s Aeronautical Message Handling System, including Aruba, Bahamas, Curacao, the Eastern Caribbean Region, Haiti, and Jamaica.
