Netscope™ Network Assessment For National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC)
ISSUE
As the premier national resource center for recovering missing children and preventing abuse, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), has worked on over 73,000 cases and helped to recover more than 48,000 children. The NCMEC Web site serves as a critical tool in missing-children cases, collecting tips while disseminating information and photographs to law enforcement entities for investigation. Due to the urgency of their mission, NCMEC needed a network performance and security assessment.
SOLUTION
Network assessment using DSA's NetScope assessment tool
• Identified needs for the network
- Analyzed mission critical systems, corporate assets and short-term goals with NCMEC officials
• Developed network performance baseline
- Appraised bandwidth use at different times of the day to uncover bottlenecks
• Established physical and personnel risk baseline
- Identified physical risks
- NCMEC staff completed questionnaires
• Distinguished those vulnerabilities that could cause harm to assets and rated them on a hierarchical scale of impact
• Delivered 2 documents that outline baseline results as well as network vulnerabilities and deficiencies
RESULT
DSA provided NCMEC with the information needed to ensure that its network securely meets organizational objectives.
DSA established the groundwork for:
• a continuity of operations plan
• information technology policies to ensure corporate compliance with the secure use of infrastructure.
Allows them to meet mission needs to communicate securely with the public and support law enforcement while keeping out those who would like to harm NCMEC's efforts.
