Vault Inventory System For Universal Music Group
ISSUE
Universal Music Group, a subsidiary of Vivendi Universal, is the world’s leading music company and controls 40% of the United States’ album sales market. Music vaults around the United States are used to store recordings and Universal did not have a central inventory system of their recordings -- which left their key assets vulnerable to loss, theft, or piracy and constrained revenue growth.
SOLUTION
DSA provided Universal:
-
A customized, secure, web-based application to track the location, metadata and physical content of each individual asset within the UMG worldwide library
-
Ability to request recordings on-line with the ability to select multiple elements through a “shopping cart”
-
Bar-code capability to globally track storage, check-in & check-out from any of the numerous vaults that Universal utilizes
-
Various levels of accessibility for users from Administrative to Read-Only
RESULT
-
Universal has a complete inventory of their copyrights, which is now more than 13 million elements, including songs, videos and artwork, increasing Universal’s revenue stream potential.
-
Universal Music Group Vault Inventory System (VIS) serves as a centralized repository of information including album name, song title, artist, and year.
-
The ordering process is streamlined by having order requests sent directly to the vault where the content is stored
